Volunteering at VNHC
Whether you have a few hours to give or many, we would be grateful for your time. There are several ways that you can help:
Hospice Patient Volunteers: These volunteers provide comfort and assistance to our hospice patients and their families. Some volunteers work at our Hospice Residence – greeting guests, and providing much-needed company for patients. Others visit hospice patients in their homes or in the hospital.
11th Hour Volunteers: The 11th hour program is based on the premise that no one should die alone. 11th hour volunteers provide continuous companionship for terminally ill patients during their final hours, if loved ones are not available. We are privileged to have small group of dedicated volunteers who serve our patients in this very intimate way. 11th hour volunteers receive additional training to prepare them for this role.
All volunteers who work with patients receive comprehensive training to help them understand the complex issues of assisting terminally ill patients and their families. Training is offered two times a year.
Administrative Volunteers: Volunteers also assist VNHC office staff with paperwork, filing and fundraising. For those interested in helping with fundraising or office work, no training is necessary.
Please contact our volunteer coordinator, Carol Forrest at 203-276-3000 if you are interested in being part of the VNHC team. Adults over 21 only please.
