VNHC Celebrates 10th Anniversary of Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence

VNHC’s Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence opened its doors on June 5th,2000, providing compassionate, end-of-life care in a peaceful, homelike environment. See feature story in Stamford Advocate.

This unique facility was the realization of a vision of hospice care for Connecticut, where patients could live comfortably in the last stage of life, surrounded by loved ones, and attentive nursing care.

The Rosenthal Hospice Residence has served the community for 10 years, providing care to over 1000 patients and grateful families. It is the only facility of its kind in the state of Connecticut.

VNHC’s Annual Memorial Service, May 11th

An interfaith service for reflection to honor and remember those we love who have passed away in the care of hospice will be held Tuesday May 11th at 7 pm, at Temple Sinai on Lakeside Dr. in Stamford.

Please join with us in sharing sacred music, readings and remembrance, in the spirit of healing. Everyone is welcome.

Light refreshments will be served at a reception following the service.

A Young Boy Honors His Father’s Memory

Ten year-old Evan Hyman, lost his father, Howard, to brain cancer on Dec. 6, 2008. During his father’s last days, Evan got to know our Hospice Residence well and is committed to raising awareness about hospice, and raising money for VNHC.

During Evan’s run for office at Newfield Elementary School, he told his fellow students about his loss and about the hospice that cared for his father during the final week of his life. He subsequently held a cupcake sale at Newfield to raise money for hospice. The story appeared in the Stamford Advocate, and inspired a generous outpouring from the community. Evan’s efforts on behalf of hospice, plus the contributions he inspired have totalled over $8000.

VNHC receives $10,000 grant from Paul Newman’s Winning through Giving Award program

VNHC recently received $10,000 for our hospice program from Just Marketing International, the hosts of the first annual Winning Through Giving awards in Paul Newman’s memory. The grant was directed to our agency at the request of Joanne Woodward. Newman’s Own Foundation has been a past supporter of VNHC’s hospice work, and we were very touched that Ms. Woodward chose our agency to receive this gift.
